Our Culture...
"When the culture is strong "Good" - new people (players) become the culture"
"When the culture is weak - the culture becomes the people (players)"
1. Ball Control Skills
Ball Control refers to a player’s ability to gain control of the ball by using all parts of the body including feet, legs, chest, and head. A player with good ball control is able to receive passes both on the ground and out of the air with clean first touches keeping the ball close to their body. Ball control also refers to a player’s ability to maintain possession of the ball, successfully protecting it from opponents. The ability to turn quickly and sharply with the ball is also of upmost important to achieving success in football and is a difference between the top players in the world and the rest. Their ability on the 1st touch allows great Soccer players to probe the field and make decisions faster than the defensive players can prepare. A player that can make something out of nothing are difference makers / entertainers. The Greenwood Method has been a leader in this field since 1991.
2. Dribbling Skills -
"CGSA Breaks It Down To 8 Categories" Read More..
Dribbling skills refers to a player’s ability move up and down the pitch with full control of the ball at their feet. The ability to maintain close possession of the ball while running is the hardest skill that is practiced the most in football at every level. The great dribbling skills are the blueprint of The Clint Greenwood Soccer Academy Training Method "The Greenwood Method", and is produced with great expertise by the Director and Staff. A player with good dribbling skills can move the ball in different directions at different speeds with both feet. They can successfully maneuver through opponents without losing possession of the ball. Superb drilling skills are essential to achieving success in football for players of all positions.
3. Passing / Ball Striking / Receiving
Passing skills refers to a player's ability to play the ball to an area, direction, teammate or objective with great accuracy, pace, and timing. The great world class players are of great ability and skill in this area, and are of different class because of the endless hours they object themselves to. The ability to play with 1 touch and play it accurately is an important skill that Great players separate themselves from just an ordinary pro. At CGSA the curriculum concentrates on field vision, 1 touch passing and proper movement before and after the ball arrives. CGSA calls their program the P.V. program which focuses on all aspects of passing, moving and Peripheral Vision and Field Awareness.
4. Suppleness / Agility
Suppleness is the player's body control and coordination from the feet to the eyes. An average man has 10000 thoughts per day. Each time a human body moves the mind tells it what to do, and the body obeys it after surveying the pros and cons of the decision to move. Once a player moves in Soccer their body's are expected to turn, twist, change direction, jump, back pedal, sideways shuffle, and avoid areas of danger at full speed. Through SAQ drills using apparatus, cones, agility poles, ladders, jump hurdles, speed rings, agility ballads, and other exercise equipment which strengthens a players suppleness. CGSA are strong believers on incorporating SAQ with the ball in most lesson plans. "At the end of the day when it's all said and done World Class Player's avoid players with and without the ball faster than others'". To avoid a player or to get from A to B quicker in Football your suppleness comes to play a serious component in a World Class Footballer."
5. Footspeed / Ball Gymnastics
A difference making skill like fast feet refers to a player's ability to maneuver the ball in tight positions during the game. What separates the best in the world like Messi, Ronaldo and before them Johan Cruyff, Pele, and Best was that there reaction time with their feet and the ball was far superior and made it very difficult to try to tackle them when they had the ball at their feet. "This type of ability made my career and made me a marked man and especially around the penalty area where I can beat more than just 1 player but 2 and sometimes 3. I scored and set up many goals when it seemed like I had no space. I felt more relaxed than I would when it is 1 on 1 with miles of space, explains Clint Greenwood Technical Director, CGSA."
